To enrich your experience on the plains of the Masai Mara, consider taking the time to visit a local village to gain a deeper connection and understanding of the people and culture of this incredible region. The majority of the Masai still practice their traditional way of life and live as pastoralists with cattle at the center of their culture and social life. Interaction and discussion with the locals is encouraged, so whether the ladies are building a hut or the warriors are dancing or making fire, guests are free to join in.
Please note: A fee must be paid to the local Masai Elder in order to participate in a village visit, and must be paid for in cash. The fee is approximately $25-30 USD per person, and is not included in trip costs.
